I spent 11 nights at Domaine Thomson, and it was the most relaxing trip I have ever taken. Sarah was most definitely warm, welcoming and knowledgeable on local issues, and places to visit. She is a marvellous cook, serving up copious amounts of all her own home-grown organic veg, and buying meat and fish locally, supporting the local community and young farmers just starting out.
The locals were also friendly, and I had the chance of meeting a couple during my stay. The life style there is very slow paced and relaxed.
The room was clean, aired and spacious and furnished with antique furniture befitting the style and age of the property. To my surprise nestled behind what seemed like a built-in wardrobe was a lovely ensuite shower room including a wc, and basin. I most definitely had a room with a view, looking out onto the back of the property. The shuttered windows opening out onto beautifully kept gardens.
The guesthouse also has a huge handbuilt barbeque, and boasts a large outdoor swimming pool, which was just warming up for the summer season ahead. I spent many afternoons up by the pool reading a book or sitting on the edge dangling my legs in the water. A private pool just for me.... perfect!
It was a great place to just chill, or as some of the other reviewees have mentioned to use as a base for sightseeing. The surrounding countryside is pretty awesome and it is of course surrounded by the many castles (chateaus) where you can while away the hours at leisure. I had such a relaxing holiday I came home completely refreshed, and I would recommend Domaine Thomson as a relaxing retreat to anyone.
We only stayed one night because we were on the move, but I wish we could have stayed a week. Sarah was a very pleasant hostess, and cooked a great dinner for us. She can also give you lots of information on the area. Beautiful and peaceful...
My wife and I went to [Engravies] for winemaking lessons from 2 to 5 Nov 2010. in fact we just came back. It was an amazing experience. the Winemaker was a charming man that Sarah had set us up with, and it was perfect. Sarah is a perfect host with her willingness to go out of her way to help and her attention to detail made evrything so perfect. thank you Sarah and we wish you every success.
My family and I spent 3 days with Sarah at the beginning of our French holiday. The accomodation was clean and more than adequate and the breakfasts were great. Both father and son are cyclists and Sarah ensured they received a hearty breakfast which always included eggs. (Something we missed on the rest of our holiday) Every evening, we came back to a home cooked meal - Sarah introduced us to a number of new vegetables. The pool was a welcome respite and despite the inclement weather, we used it on a number of occasions. Sarah's genuine interest in her clients makes this establishment stand out from any of the others we visited during our stay in France. We will most definitely pencil this in for our next visit to France.

It is a lovely comfortable house in a quiet village. Pleasant grounds with large swimming pool. Ideal for exploring the area by car, on foot through woods and hills or by bike on many quiet and picturesque roads. We stayed in February when the weather could still be warm. No swimming but still plenty to do. The old town of Mirepoix is a short drive from the house. It is not far to the Pyrenees and the small ski resort of Mont d'Olmes is less than an hour away for a day on the snow! Nothing is too much trouble for the owner Sarah who can provide local knowledge or delicious meals or just let you do your own thing.
Arriving at Domaine Thomson you realise how fantastically secluded it is, giving you the freedom to fully relax without concern of annoying others. The property has large grounds, perfect for relaxing and basking in the sun. A lovely swimming pool is a treat in the middle of the hot days, with pool side loungers for the complete experience. If you can prise yourself away from the lovely valley where Domaine Thomson is located a short drive will take you to the culture rich medieval market town of Mirepoix. A little further is the famous Carcassonne with the even more well known Carcassonne castle! With an owner knowledgeable on the local area of sights attractions and wonders you may struggle to be disappointed. An area of beauty and warmth shielded from the French tourist trail, a true hidden gem. A great place to base your self when visiting the Pyrenees.
it was absolutly lovely, im used to city living so this was the perfect retreat for relaxation, lovely walks and the nearby town of Mirepoix was great with its medieval square. i spent quite a lot of time horse riding which was avilable a 3minute walk away. the house was traditional french which i loved and we had a banquet on a couple of nights which were just fantastic, far better than i had imagined and definately value for money! the rooms we were in were clean and on suite which was a bonus, outside there is a pool but because its not heated we found it a bit cold! but im sure it would be welcomed over the hotter summer months. it was mild whilst we were here but in the evenings it did cool down so the owner lit the enormous fire in the living area which again just added to the atmosphere! i would definately recommend staying here as i will be again, it is most definately a true find.
We stayed 3 nights in late October. The place was easy to find from Toulouse (with good instructions and a map from Sarah) and what a gem it is. The house has lots of charm and character and is located in a small hamlet deep in rural Fance. The rooms were charming , the beds comfortable and showers great. Best of all was our host Sarah (a remarkable women) who was an exceptional host. Her cooking / food was excellent as was her charm and hospitality and also her local knowledge of places of interest to us.
